BUL New Hire Orientation

Before Your First Day

Welcome, Colleague!

We hope you are excited to begin your career at Brown. We have devised a checklist of things to know and tasks you can accomplish right away to make your start a smooth and successful one. And don’t forget: If you have any questions, be sure to contact a member of the Onboarding Committee. We were formed specifically to help you!

  • Expect an email from your supervisor requesting a brief bio in order to prepare an announcement for Library staff.
  • Confirm your start date, time, and location with your supervisor or Library HR.
  • Finding on-campus parking can be challenging. Look into parking options (street, lot, public transit) before you arrive to ensure that your commute to campus goes smoothly.
  • Reach out to a member of our Onboarding Committee if you have questions. We’re here to help even before you arrive on campus.
  • Familiarize yourself with Workday. Your hire letter will contain information on how to access Workday to begin the onboarding process.
  • Identify your computer needs, such as your preference for a desktop or laptop computer (if applicable), and confirm this with your supervisor
  • Moving to the Providence area? Check out Brown’s Housing and Relocation site for helpful information on housing options and how to ease the cost and hassle of moving.
  • If you require accommodations or services due to a disability or medical condition, contact Employee Accommodation Services to discuss your needs and begin the registration process.
  • Please note that Brown uses the Google platform including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Sheets. If you are not familiar with the platform, please let your supervisor know.
