Haiti & Brown
Long before the January 2010 earthquake, Brown has had a special interest in Haiti. Our medical school and many of our academic departments have longstanding connections with the country, and our libraries house the largest collection of Haiti-related materials outside of Haiti itself. Brown also has ties with a number of organizations that engage in relief work in Haiti.
Since the earthquake, Brown doctors and medical students have traveled to Haiti frequently, and faculty and undergraduate students in a range of disciplines have hosted a variety of Haiti-centric events. The selection of Danticat’s The Dew Breaker for this year’s first reading reflects Brown’s intention to make this the year of Haiti at Brown.
