Used to describe the general aspects of the project. Items included under this term include cataloging, slipping, inventory, processing and conservation.

John Hay Library, “Hay”

Refers to items or collections located in the John Hay Library

Hay Annex

Refers to items or collections located at the off-site storage facility

Stacks

Location inside of the John Hay Library where collections and items are stored. There are 8 stacks, classified with an “N” in front of a number for North and floor, and “S” in front of a number for South and floor. For example, N8 denotes Floor 8, North corridor.

Collection(s)

Refers to a series of items and/or materials assembled to create one, larger collection

Item(s)

Refers to one singular thing, often a book.

Slips/Flags

Refers to acid-free, computer generated slips that contain the following information about items:

  • Title
  • Call Number
  • Publication, pagination, and other descriptive identifiers
  • Barcode (both computer generated for project and a copy of any previously existing barcode)
  • Collection location code
