Audubon’s “Nashville Warbler” on display at the John Hay Library

A volume of John James Audubon’s master work, The Birds of America, is on display on the main floor of the John Hay Library. Each plate will be on display for only one month. This month’s bird is the “Nashville Warbler”.
This elephant folio edition of The Birds of America, bound in six volumes, was presented by Albert E. Lownes to the Library on the occasion of his 50th class reunion in 1970.

On January 20, 2009, the United States will inaugurate the first African American president in its long history. This year also marks the 146th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, and the 200th anniversary of its author’s birth. Utilizing materials from the John Hay Library’s impressive holdings of original material on Abraham Lincoln, this exhibition explores the life and career of the nation’s 16th President, his thoughts on questions of race in the United States, and his legacy in modern American life.

Update, January 22, 2009: Library web services have now been restored.
We are experiencing problems with the library web server. The library website is currently available only on campus or via the VPN client off campus. Josiah, the library catalog, is not affected.
