Jews and American Comics: An Exhibition of Popular Art

Based on the collections of the John Hay Library, this exhibit captures the contributions Jewish writers and artists made to comic art since its origin in the Yiddish press of the early 1900s.
On display are examples of the art form drawn from the Hay’s collection of more than 70,000 comic books, Artists whose work is included in the exhibit include Rube Goldberg, Harvey Kurtzman, Al Capp, Will Eisner, Trina Robbins and Aline Kominsky Crumb, on display in works from Action Comics to Mad Magazine to the Vault of Horror.
On Sunday, November 16, 2-4, the student curators — Randy Alevi, Lara Danielle Fox, Franklin Kanin, Kaitlyn Laabs, Chelsea Miro, Cassie Owens, Emily M. Paiz and Ben Stein — will hold an exhibition open house, to which the public is invited.

Lincoln, Drawn from Life: Five Artists, Six Portraits

This Lincoln Bicentennial exhibit allows the viewer to compare and contrast six oil-on-canvas portraits of Lincoln created by five different artists who made first-hand observations and drawings of Lincoln during his lifetime.

The Library has upgraded its subscription to ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Full Text
ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Full Text is the world’s most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses. PQDT Full Text includes 2.4 million dissertation and theses citations from around the world from 1861 to the present day together with 1 million full text dissertations that are available for download in PDF format. The database offers full text for most of the dissertations added since 1997 and strong retrospective full text coverage for older graduate works. Each dissertation published since July 1980 includes a 350 word abstract written by the author. Master’s theses published since 1988 include 150 word abstracts. Bibliographic citations are available for dissertations dating from 1637. Where available, PQDT Full Text provides 24-page previews of dissertations and theses. ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Full Text also offers researchers unlimited access to digital copies from their own institutions as well as affordable copies from others.
