Haaretz Available Online

The Brown Library and the Program in Judaic Studies would like to announce the online availability of the Israeli newspaper Haaretz. Founded in 1918 Haaretz is Israel’s oldest daily newspaper and enjoys, in Israel, a reputation similar to the New York Times in this country. Haaretz will be available in both Hebrew and English editions.  Its availability is the result of a Haaretz Available Online

The Library Welcomes Laura Pavlech

The Library is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura Pavlech as the new Biomedical and Life Sciences Librarian. Pavlech recently received her master of science in library science from the University of North Carolina School of Information and Library Science. For the past two years, she has worked in the User Services department of the UNC Health Sciences Library, The Library Welcomes Laura Pavlech

Summer Activity in the Library

Some might view the summer as a slow time on a college campus, but the Brown University Library remains committed to supporting users. Many groups find themselves using the Library over the summer months including: pre-college students, undergraduates, and high school students. The summer is also a time for renovation and an opportunity to install new technologies. Updates From Around the Library (July 2014)

Here are a few recent highlights from some of the Library’s various blogs: For National Accordion Awareness Week, Brown Curio shared an accordion-related image from the Anne S.K. Brown Military Collection. The Hall-Hoag Collection Blog posted some materials from the “Dianetics Testing Center” and the “Union of Concerned Scientists.” The new eResources blog, “Wired Up and Plugged In,” provides Updates From Around the Library (July 2014)

Happy Carberry Day

The Library has been unable to confirm or deny if Professor Josiah S. Carberry will be making an appearance on campus tomorrow (Friday, June 13, 2014), but strangely this afternoon every lecture hall on campus was reserved before these reservations were quickly cancelled. Tableau Workshop

On June 16, 2014 at 2 p.m. the library will offer a 90-minute workshop on Tableau in the Hecker Center. Tableau is a software package that allows users to upload and explore their data, and quickly put together a variety of visualizations that can be published to the web. This will be a hands-on workshop Tableau Workshop
