Exhibit Celebrating the Rock’s 50th Anniversary

An exhibit honoring the Rockefeller Library’s 50th Anniversary will be on display this fall in the lobby cases of the Rockefeller Library. This exhibit will showcase various photographs, documents, and other ephemera from the building’s half-century of existence. International Literacy Day

The University Library invites the Brown community to recognize and celebrate International Literacy Day. For over 40 years, UNESCO has celebrated International Literacy Day. The focus this year is on “literacies of the 21st century.” As technology continues to change, the notion of literacy continues to evolve. The Great War 1914–1918 | A Centennial Exhibition

The Great War, 1914–1918 Exhibit will be on display in the Hay Lobby Cases from September 2 – December 19, 2014. The exhibit showcases items from the Anne S.K. Brown Military Collection. Items include: journals, books, etchings, posters, music sheets, and illustrations. All pieces are related to World War I. The Library Welcomes Jeanette Norris

The Library is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeanette Norris as the new Metadata Management Librarian. Norris comes to Brown from Syracuse University where she received her MSLIS degree. She held a number of library positions at Syracuse, most recently Technical Specialist (Cataloging and Metadata). Her work experience includes cataloging, metadata creation, authority control, metadata mapping, and The Library Welcomes Jeanette Norris

Journal of Clinical Psychiatry Back Online

The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry is back online.  Their platform change was completed on Monday (8/11).  All functions should be operating.  If you encounter a problem send an email to eresources@brown.edu. The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry and Psychiatrist.com is migrating to a modern platform that will enable it  to provide more consistent service to users and make Journal of Clinical Psychiatry Back Online

Oil & Water Screening at Rhode Island International Film Festival

“Oil & Water”—the selection for this year’s First Readings program—will be screened at the Rhode Island International Film Festival on Thursday August 7 at 2:30 p.m. in the Metcalf Auditorium at RISD Museum. The film is a coming-of-age story of two boys (David Poritz and Hugo Lucitante), from different backgrounds, confronting one of the world’s worst toxic disasters. <em>Oil & Water</em> Screening at Rhode Island International Film Festival

Librarian Li Wang Wins Outstanding Paper Award

At the 2014 International Conference on Chinese Digital Publishing and Digital Libraries, Librarian Li Wang was awarded Outstanding Paper (first place) for his presentation and paper titled “Digital Scholarship at Brown: New Trends in Research Services in North American University Libraries.” This conference was organized by Tsinghua University Library, The University of Hong Kong Libraries, Shandong Librarian Li Wang Wins Outstanding Paper Award
