Leslie Varrecchia: Senior Library Expert – Electronic Resources

Congratulations to Leslie Varrecchia, who has been promoted to the position of Senior Library Expert -Electronic Resources.
Previously, Leslie served as the Senior Library Specialist – Cataloging in Scholarly Resources since June 1, 2022.
Leslie came to Brown from the Newport Public Library where she worked as a cataloger performing cataloging and database management. She also helped maintain the library’s website using WordPress. Prior to that, she was a research associate at the US Naval War College.
Leslie received her Master in Library and Information Studies from the University of Rhode Island, a master’s degree in history from Providence College, and a bachelor’s in history from the University of Miami.
Though Leslie’s great cataloging skills will be missed, she will make an excellent addition to Eresources!

Todd Steiner: Library Technical Assistant II – Mailroom

The Library is pleased to announce that Todd Steiner has joined the mailroom staff as Library Technical Assistant II. His first day is March 20, 2023.
Todd comes to us from the Brown University Bookstore where he has worked for the past 18 years in various roles supporting the University’s faculty, staff, and students with necessary materials for academic pursuits.
Todd’s most recent position was Shipping & Receiving Manager for the Bookstore.

Cass Wilkinson Saldaña: Social Sciences Data Librarian

The Library is pleased to announce the appointment of Cass Wilkinson Saldaña (they/them) as the Social Sciences Data Librarian. In this position, Cass will build and strengthen partnerships and provide instruction and research support for programs in Economics, Sociology, Public Policy, and other research areas that rely on numeric, financial, polling, and survey data. This is an exciting expansion of the Library’s team of data specialists!
Cass brings expertise working with data in academic libraries, public health, and education. Most recently they have worked as a Research Associate and Data Analyst at Dataspark at the University of Rhode Island Library. Cass worked in Philadelphia before and during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak supporting the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute and as a member of the City of Philadelphia Department of Public Health’s Enterprise Data Team. Before moving to Philadelphia, they worked as the Social Science and Geospatial Data Librarian at Cornell University.
Cass earned their Master of Science in Information from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) with a focus on Library Science and Computational Social Science, and their Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Macalester College.
Cass’s first day will be Monday, May 15, 2023.
