Now that you’re starting to settle in, be sure to begin exploring Brown’s libraries and beautiful campus. You’ll also start receiving information daily, keeping you abreast of important Library and University information.
- Review your first week’s schedule and confirm the required and recommended training(s) with your supervisor.
- Review your job description and receive an outline of duties and expectations from your supervisor.
- If you are a member of the bargaining unit, your steward(s) will reach out to you to discuss union membership and arrange for you to receive an overview of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Review your work schedule and have an overview of personnel policies reviewed with you.
- Receive an overview of the Brown University Library – its purpose, organizational structure, and goals.
- Log in to Workday and familiarize yourself with the system. Please see a colleague or your supervisor for assistance.
- Contact LibTech libtech@brown.edu or 401-863-9898 to confirm your Library technology needs. You may also contact LibTech for assistance anytime you have computer or tech issues.
- Work with your supervisor to set up meetings with key staff. Some meetings may automatically be set up for you and arrive in your inbox. A complete list of all BUL staff is available on our website.
- You may start receiving emails from CARBERRY, which is the Library’s official listserv for communication. Important notices about the Brown University Library will be sent from this email. You can view the Carberry archives on the staff intranet.
- The Brown University Library also has another listserv called LIBSTAFF for informal communication. You may contact Deneen Eugenio in Library HR (deneen_eugenio@brown.edu or 401-863-2164) to add yourself to this list if you’re interested. Only staff who have opted in will see these messages. You will receive information on attending the University Human Resources orientation for new employees.
- Familiarize yourself with the Library’s intranet: library.brown.edu/intranet. You’ll find useful information here and other staff resources; e.g., information on travel reimbursement and a photo directory of Library staff.
- Library HR will reach out to you about a 12-month tour of the Brown University Libraries and their departments.
- Confirm that you have Brown ID card swipe access to all needed areas. Try your Brown ID at the card readers to make sure you have access.
- You may have noticed Today @Brown (previously Morning Mail), a daily digest of messages for the Brown comhttps://www.brown.edu/initiatives/digital-transformation-project/todaymunity, which is sent to your inbox. This will let you know what is going on in the University, and you can use it in the future to inform the community of Library events or services.
- We use Google Calendar to set up meetings and reserves spaces. Get access to relevant Google calendars for reserving rooms by contacting Joe Mancino, the Library Systems Administrator (Joseph_Mancino@brown.edu or 401-863-2445).
- Order your name plate for your work space by contacting Ben Tyler, Digital Initiatives Librarian, at Benjamin_Tyler@brown.edu or 401-863-1508.
- Explore the different dining options available on campus from Brown Dining Services and in the nearby Thayer Street district.
